GS Motorsports Installation

The Dodge Community has long awaited a successful, powerful, and safe forced induction system for the popular 5.7L Hemi. Building and mounting a supercharger kit is no problem, but supercharger manufacturers have had a difficult time with the hard to figure out computer system attached to the Hemi. GS Motorsports has cracked the code!

During a recent installation, tune, and test with Scott and Todd of GS Motorsports we got the opportunity to see quite a few unique features to the GS Motorsport superchargers. Among these are a truly remarkable intercooling system, a custom injection fuel block, and a fully programmable tuning kit that will blow people away (see a complete listing of features below).

The power was unbelievable! The Paxton Novi head unit provided a surprisingly aggressive introduction of boost to the bottom-end of the power-band, but still pulled in the top-end like you would expect a centrifugal to do. This broad power-band created an atmosphere of drive-ability that you normally only get from a roots or screw type supercharger. We can't imagine what the big boost kit would be like. According to Scott at GS, when the Big Boost and the Killer kits are installed on top of the base kit, a good deal on rear tires is necessity.

Intercooling

The GS Motorsports air-to-water intercooler system is remarkable. It is a closed loop system that has it's own mini radiator, water pump, and refill reservoir.

On the picture to the right you can see the sends and returns for the water line. In recent test with a warmed up engine and a 65 degree day, the air temperature into the intercooler was 188 degrees and the temp out was 68 degrees. This makes the air coming out of the intercooler almost the same as the ambient temperature. Quite impressive!

This is accomplished by having a separate radiator that the water passes through in the very front of the fender-well. The refill reservoir also allows for ice cold water to be added, to improve short term cooling.

Fuel Injection & Plugs

The GS Motorsports custom built injecting fuel block is a truly unique solution. It adds two 36 pound injectors for increased performance. To insure a proper install, there is a locater notch on top that fits snuggly against the throttle body.
Also, included in the kit are new spark plugs. There is no easy way to change spark plugs in a Hemi, but in the installation instructions you will find some great ideas and tips to make the process a little less gut-wrenching.

The new spark plugs are a bit shorter than the stock ones. The new ones have a shorter thread making the overall plug shorter and further away from the pistons. This minimizes the chance for detonation, in fact, GS Motorsports have found that the engine runs a better burn with the plug a little further out in the combustion chamber.

Tuning

The GS Motorsports comes with a tuning program. Not only does this come with a manufacturer recommended and safe tune for the kit, but also allows for self tuning, which comes in handy for dyno accessible installations. With the killer upgrade a more modified and tested tuning comes included as well.

Also included with the program, is a record feature so that you can save and choose previous tunes. This feature also allows you to record your performance history, so that you can get a feel for which tune is the most effective for your application. Do not fear, the stock tune will always be on the disk if you go wild. An initial tune is definitely recommended after finishing the installation, to protect your investment.
